In Alicante, what to do?
Discover the province's main places of interest.
There are many reasons to visit Alicante, one could be the goodness of its climate and a sun that doesn’t know about seasons. Maybe you want to take a dip in one of its 44 beaches with blue flag certification, try your swing in one of its golf courses, dock in some of the yacht clubs, dive in its marine reserves, climb one of its mountains, or perhaps visit one of the thematic parks.
If you are lucky enough to visit Alicante for the San Juan festivities, between the 19th and 24th of June, you will enjoy a spectacle for the eyes, the Hogueras de San Juan. On these dates the city becomes a large-scale exhibition of really impressive sculptures.
Other important celebrations are the Moors and Christians, which are held throughout the province, between July and October. And of course, the Mystery of Elche, a World Heritage sacramental event, celebrated in August.
First things first, Santa Barbara Castle, the hallmark of Alicante’s capital, located 166 metres above sea level, offers you incredible views of the city and the entire bay.
In addition to El Postiguet Beach, the city has many interesting places, such as the Archaeology Museum of Alicante MARQ, the Modern Art Museum, the Hogueras Museum of Alicante, the Principal Theatre, the San Nicolás Cathedral, the Alicante Market, or the neighbourhood of Santa Cruz.
The nightlife of the city is quite active with a large number of bars, restaurants and clubs in the old town area.
In terms of beaches, Alicante has some of the best in Spain. A few kilometres from the centre of Alicante, you will find Playa de San Juan, El Campello, La Albufereta and La Almadraba.
Along the southern coast of the province, you have the beaches of Guardamar del Segura (and its dunes), Pilar de Horadada, Torrevieja, Santa Pola (and its marina) and Arenales del Sol. On the north coast (Marina Baja and Alta), you have the beaches of Villajoyosa; the beaches of Levante and Poniente in the bay of Benidorm, or the beach of Calpe and its rock of Ifach. Tabarca Island and Benidorm Island are also experiences you should enjoy.

Many of the best chocolates in Spain come out of this town, cheerful as their name suggests, derived from Latin. Besides its almost four kilometres of beaches and coves, you will be impressed by how they celebrate the Moors and Christians festival in July, where with a Royal Landing, they recreate a real naval battle.

Altea
With one of the SEAT models named in its honour, and also known as the Dome of the Mediterranean, this town is synonymous with art. Because of its particular beauty and perfect state of preservation, it attracts artists from all over the world. It is no coincidence that Altea houses the Faculty of Arts of the University of Miguel Hernández in Elche.

In this town you can find the symbol of the Costa Blanca, yes, the very same Peñón de Ifach, a gigantic rock that rises to more than three hundred meters of altitude, famous among climbers; and if you don’t climb, you can still enjoy the splendid views, ascending through a tunnel that leads to the summit.
