If there is one constant in the archipelago it is its climate, sunny and pleasant almost all year round. The island of La Gomera is no different from its sisters in this respect. For this reason, any time is opportune to give you a break to explore this impressive island.

The availability of car hire La Gomera is usually guaranteed, however, it is advisable to make a forecast during the months of December to March.

Set among cliffs, peaceful and rural, it is the capital of this charming island, the starting point of Columbus’ last voyage to the New World. When you arrive in the city, you will have no difficulty walking its narrow streets and getting to know its most outstanding places first hand:

First of all, we recommend you to visit the Casa de Colón, now converted into a museum that, among other valuable pieces, houses an important Peruvian collection. The chapel of San Sebastian, built in 1540, is one of its oldest religious buildings. Finally, you should visit the Torre del Conde, a national historical monument, located in the centre of an extensive garden, which houses a cartographic collection of the island.

Routes by car through La Gomera:

Alajeró

The road to the south in the direction of Playa de Santiago passes through this peaceful village surrounded by palm and almond trees. The village is home to the church of El Salvador, the oldest on the island.

Valle Gran Rey

In the western part of the island the Great King Valley, a sunny region covered by palm trees and tropical crops.

Chipude: This is a town dominated by a volcanic fortress, an important area for the production of pre-Hispanic crafts made from red clay. Here the church Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (17th century) stands out.

Vueltas: This village has one of the most visited beaches of Gomera. The black sand, the imposing cliff, the small boats; harmonize with the crystalline waters.

Hermigua Valley

18 km northwest of San Sebastian. The village emerges, scattered among banana and sugar cane plantations. Here is the convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, founded in 1610.

Agulo: As you go along the road, you reach the village of Agulo. It is said to be one of the best places to see the Teide. If you visit the island at the end of April (the 24th), you should attend the village’s festivities, where they light fires and hold a jumping contest over the fire.

Vallehermoso

From Agulo, you can reach it by a road that passes through white villages such as Tamarga and its houses among palm groves, Macayo, lodge, Tazo, Arguamul and the Vallehermoso, one of the greenest and most prosperous areas of the island.

The Organs: On the coast you can find the famous 80m high basalt organs. They cannot be seen from land, but from San Sebastian and Playa Santiago boat trips are organized to enjoy them and the whole coast of Gomera.

Playa de Santiago

The road continues through the ravines to reach Santiago Beach. As the place is three kilometres away from the airport, the area is organised to receive visitors.

A few metres along the coast, you will find the Santiago lagoon. Here, the houses stand out for their elegance. It is an ideal place to stop and have a drink in one of the bars in the area.

Garajonay National Park:

18 km northwest of San Sebastian. Considered a World Heritage Site. The upper part is usually covered in fog, the forest is made up of a great variety of trees, it is always green and contrasts with the aridity of the lower part of the island.

Some trails
