Valencia is a cosmopolitan city, Mediterranean by definition. In the old part of the city you must visit the City Hall building, the Town Hall which houses the Municipal History Museum of Valencia, the impressive bullring and the Bullfighting Museum.

Other monuments of unique historical and cultural value are the Santos Juanes church and the Lonja de la Seda, built in 1498. As well as the parish church of San Nicolás de Bari and San Pedro Mártir.

The cathedral, built in 1261, is another of the wonders you must visit on your way through Valencia, and of course, one of the familiar landmarks for Valencians, the tower of the Miguelete or the Micalet. Other monuments of particular beauty and where the legal and political power of Valencia lies are the Palace of Justice and the Palace of the Borgias, the seat of the Valencian Parliament. The Main Theatre, the Music Palace, the Church of San Lorenzo, the Church of San Martín Obispo and San Antonio are important buildings that you should visit.

The church of Santo Domingo, is a faithful representative of Valencian Gothic, and very close by, across the River Turia, is the peaceful Botanical Garden or the Real Monasterio de la Trinidad.

The 19th century museum houses exhibitions that explain the cultural changes in Spanish society, while the palace of the Marquis of Dos Aguas houses the National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuary Arts, with an important exhibition of Spanish and foreign ceramics. There is also the Museum of Fine Arts with more than 3,000 paintings by great masters from the 14th century to the present day.

If you want to be impressed by Valencian popular art, you should visit Valencia during the month of March, where the world-famous Fallas is held. The city is decorated for the occasion with an impressive amount of ninots, cardboard monuments of several meters high. The women wear a traditional Fallera costume.

In the same urban centre, to the north of the promenade, you can visit the most popular urban beaches, such as Malvarrosa beach, Las Arenas beach and Cabañal beach. If you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet, you should go to the El Pinedo, El Saler or La Devesa beaches, the latter being a favourite with windsurfers and water sports enthusiasts.

Paterna

Only 10 kilometres from the city centre of Valencia is the city of Paterna, the most outstanding monument being the Arabic tower, which is about fifteen metres high and a symbol of the city. From Paterna it is very easy to reach Manises, an important town in the manufacture of ceramics and which has the Ceramics Museum.

Sagunto

Sagunto is a city full of history and monuments of great historical and cultural value, and since it is located 30 kilometres from the centre of Valencia, it is well worth the trip. The site, which includes the imposing castle, is considered a National Monument. Very close to the site you will find the Roman Theatre, the Sangre Hermitage, the Jewish Quarter, the Temple of Diana, the Church of Santa María and the Roman Circus.

Gandía

Only 70 kilometres from the centre of Valencia separate this incredible fishing and sports town, a favourite destination for many for their summer holidays. Gandía has an old town of unique beauty and conservation, and a promenade and magnificent beaches. The Doge’s Palace is one of the most outstanding in the city, as well as the church of Santa María, the Town Hall building, the hospital of San Marcos and the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara. While the fine sand beaches adorn the coastline, including Nord beach, Venice beach and Varadero beach.
